Abstract (AI)
Recently the freight transportation has brought many problems such as congestion, air pollution etc. It is important to clarify the mechanism of modal choice of shippers in freight transportation. In this paper, we developed a model of modal choice of intercity freight transportation. Goods were classified in terms of the products type, handing characteristics and its value by quantification theory type III. Then the result and other alternative specific variables which affect modal choice were used together in the study of modal choice by quantification theory type II.
Key Findings
1
A model of modal choice for intercity freight transportation was developed to clarify shipper decision mechanisms.
2
Goods were classified by product type, handling characteristics, and value using quantification theory type III.
3
The classification results and alternative-specific variables were used jointly to study modal choice via quantification theory type II.
4
The study links freight-related problems (congestion, air pollution) to the importance of understanding modal choice mechanisms for shippers.
