This paper provides a literature review of the cascade refrigeration system (CRS). It is an important system that can achieve an evaporating temperature as low as −170 °C and broadens the refrigeration temperature range of conventional systems. In this paper, several research options such as various designs of CRS, studies on refrigerants, and optimization works on the systems are discussed. Moreover, the influence of parameters on system performance, the economic analysis, and applications are defined, followed by conclusions and suggestions for future studies.
1
Cascade refrigeration systems can achieve evaporating temperatures as low as −170 °C, extending the operating range beyond conventional refrigeration systems.
2
System optimization studies and the effects of operating parameters on cascade refrigeration performance are synthesized.
3
The literature review covers economic analyses and practical applications of cascade refrigeration systems.
4
The paper identifies conclusions and suggests directions for future cascade refrigeration research.
5
The review examines multiple cascade refrigeration system designs and evaluates research on different refrigerants.
