As an art therapist, I am interested in art experiences that give people joy or inner satisfaction. I am curious if all people find similar sorts of experiences intrinsically rewarding no matter where they are from. I know that extrinsic rewards are culturally dependent, but what about inner satisfaction? Because of this curiosity about inner satisfaction across cultural boundaries, and because I have always thought that art therapy should be accessible to everyone, whatever their cultural or ethnic background, gender, age, ability, disability, or nationality, I sought opportunities to practice art therapy and discuss inner satisfaction with people from cultural backgrounds different from mine.
