We report a novel reaction of the recently discovered family of fullerene derivatives <i>C</i>1-C60Ar5Th' with thiophene derivatives Th''H yielding a previously unknown family of <i>C</i>1-C60Ar5Th'Th''H compounds with three different types of functional aromatic addends attached to the carbon cage. The discovered reaction paves a way to the synthesis of novel C60 fullerene derivatives with promising antioxidant and antiviral properties.
1
A novel reaction transforms C1-C60Ar5Th' fullerene derivatives with thiophene derivatives Th''H into previously unknown C1-C60Ar5Th'Th''H compounds.
2
The discovered regioselective, step-by-step C60Cl6 functionalization approach enables synthesis of these novel fullerene derivatives.
3
The new compounds feature three different types of functional aromatic addends attached to the C60 carbon cage.
4
The synthesized C1-C60Ar5Th'Th''H fullerene derivatives show promising antioxidant and antiviral properties.

Novel C60 fullerene derivatives of the C1-C60Ar5Th'Th''H family (fullerene carbon cage functionalized with three different aromatic addends including Ar and thiophene units)

Regioselective step-by-step C60Cl6 functionalization reaction pathway and resulting structural diversification leading to antioxidant and antiviral properties of the C1-C60Ar5Th'Th''H derivatives
