van der Waals (vdW) materials are versatile systems for the study of magnetism in low dimensions. Motivated by the potential tunability of the new vdW ferromagnet VI${}_{3}$, the authors perform here a microscopic and thermodynamic study under hydrostatic pressure on bulk single crystals. Their main findings include: (i) VI${}_{3}$ undergoes two ferromagnetic transitions for ambient and low pressures, implying a complex magnetic structure; (ii) at higher pressures, the magnetic transitions merge with a structural one -- a hallmark of magnetoelastic coupling.
