This paper presents a design and real-time implementation of Kalman Filter on hardware considering a model-based approach. The filter is designed with different data types in the MATLAB Simulink environment using the Model Composer Blocks Library. After automatic code generation with Model Composer, the designed filter is exported to Vivado Design Suite as Intellectual Property (IP). Verification of the design is carried out on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). By comparing the reference MATLAB model and realization on hardware, the design is verified for data accuracy. Moreover, performance outcomes for real-time applications like timing and utilization analyses are examined.
1
A model-based Kalman Filter was designed in MATLAB Simulink using the Model Composer Blocks Library and implemented on FPGA.
2
Automatic code generation via Model Composer enabled exporting the filter as an IP block to Vivado Design Suite for hardware realization.
3
Hardware verification on FPGA compared the implementation to the reference MATLAB model to confirm data accuracy.
4
Performance metrics relevant to real-time applications, including timing and resource utilization, were analyzed for the FPGA implementation.
5
The design supports different data types in Simulink, demonstrating flexibility in model-based hardware deployment of the Kalman Filter.
