Abstract (AI)
primary brain and CNS tumors in the United States. This report represents a dramatic increase in population coverage (approximately 97% from the initial CBTRUS Reports). The central cancer registries receive populationbased, standardized data from all healthcare data sources primarily through certified tumor registrars. Along with the UDS, there are quality control checks and a system for rating each central registry to further insure that these data are reported as accurately and completely as possible. These individuals and organizations provide the high quality data that are the foundation of the CBTRUS statistical reports and scientific activities.
Key Findings
1
CBTRUS Statistical Report covers primary brain and central nervous system tumors diagnosed in the United States during 2005–2009.
2
Data are collected from central cancer registries receiving standardized, population-based inputs from all healthcare data sources via certified tumor registrars.
3
High-quality registry data underpin the CBTRUS statistical reports and related scientific activities.
4
Population coverage in this report increased dramatically to approximately 97% compared to initial CBTRUS reports.
5
Quality control checks and a registry rating system are used to ensure data are reported accurately and completely.
