This article examines the specifics of artistic reception of classical Russian poetry in the works of contemporary Udmurt, Mari, Chuvash, and Tatar poets, identifying artistic and aesthetic parallels in the contemporary poetry of the peoples of Russia. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that studying the reception of classical texts in the works of contemporary poets allows us to identify intertextual connections at various levels of intertextuality: titles, quotations, allusions, reminiscences, incorporation of names of literary characters or mythological heroes into the text, references to predecessor poets, and poetic paradigms (images, plots, motifs). In contemporary natural-philosophical poetry, one can distinguish both traditions rooted in folklore and national mythopoetics, as well as a poetic dialogue with classical Russian poetry (F. I. Tyutchev, A. A. Fet, S. A. Yesenin). A productive approach to studying the literatures of the peoples of Russia can be the identification of intertextual connections at the diachronic and synchronic levels. Most often, in the works of modern Udmurt, Mari, Russian, Chuvash, and Tatar poets, we observe the artistic reception of the names, images and literary legacies of G. R. Derzhavin, A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, S. A. Yesenin; an appeal to the work of G. R. Derzhavin can reflect the individual author's perception. Using the example of the poem "Gavriil Derzhavin in Cheboksary" (2023) by People's Poet of the Chuvash Republic V. V. Turgay (translated into Russian by Yu. Shcherbakova), poems by People's Poet of the Republic of Tatarstan R. M. Minnullin, People's Poet of the Udmurt Republic V. V. Ar-Sergi (V. V. Sergeev) and other contemporary poets, an attempt to examine the artistic reception of classical texts is made.
1
Derzhavin, Pushkin, Lermontov, and Yesenin are the Russian classics most frequently artistically received by contemporary poets across these traditions.
2
Reception operates through titles, quotations, allusions, reminiscences, inherited character names, references to predecessor poets, and shared poetic paradigms.
3
The poem “Gavriil Derzhavin in Cheboksary” (2023) and poems by Tatar, Udmurt, and other contemporary poets provide case studies of classical-text reception.
4
The study identifies intertextual connections between classical Russian poetry and contemporary Udmurt, Mari, Chuvash, and Tatar lyric poetry.
5
Tracing intertextual links diachronically and synchronically is presented as a productive approach to comparative study of Russia’s literatures.
