The article is devoted to a number of issues related to rescue archaeological excavations, which took place in the historical part of Tobolsk. The history of exploring the city as a monument of archaeology begins in 1970, when professional researchers began the excavation. The most indicative is the period since 2000. At that time, restoration and construction work was resumed. They prompted archaeologists to actively explore the ancient core of the city - the Kremlin. The historiography relating to the excavations of those years is reflected in a number of articles and monographs and, it would seem, is quite complete. However, despite this information, there is still no clear picture of the work carried out. Partially this gap is associated with an incomplete set of representative data for all the years of active excavation (territory, volumes, performers, etc.). The purpose of the publication is to present the historical part of Tobolsk affected by the excavations. The considered chronological period is from 1970 to the present day. The tasks that were posed in the article are connected with the assessment of the prospects of research and the problems of studying and protecting the cultural layer in Tobolsk. The article identifies questions on the history and organization of rescue archaeological research in the city, and also reflects the main results of such activities.
1
Existing historiography does not provide a complete picture of the excavations because representative data on territories, excavation volumes, and participants remain incomplete.

3
Professional archaeological excavation of Tobolsk began in 1970, with activity intensifying after restoration and construction resumed around 2000.
4
The article assesses future research prospects and identifies challenges in studying and protecting Tobolsk’s archaeological cultural layer.
5
The study reconstructs the history and organization of rescue archaeology in Tobolsk from 1970 to the present and summarizes its principal results.
