Abstract (AI)
Key Findings
1
AI companions are increasingly used by young users for social interaction and emotional support, potentially reducing loneliness and creating a sense of being heard.
2
Anthropomorphism toward AI is proposed as a mediating mechanism linking emotional loneliness to emotional dependence on AI companions.
3
Emotional loneliness may motivate individuals to seek emotional fulfillment through AI companions.
4
Perceived AI warmth and responsiveness may strengthen the relationship between anthropomorphism and emotional dependence, particularly when AI is experienced as understanding and responsive.
5
The abstract highlights excessive AI-companion use as a potential pathway toward emotional dependence, while not reporting empirical effect sizes or study results.
