Agile Human Resource Management: Navigating Industry 5.0 Dynamics

Abstract Purpose This chapter discusses how the human resources (HR) function can transition from an administrative role to a strategic partner and agile role in the upcoming era of Industry 5.0 This new era will be a significant shift in how current organizations and companies amalgamate technology and human resources’ capabilities giving rise to a resilient workforce that is sustainable in the changing business landscape and has human–machine collaboration at the forefront. Need for the Study This chapter examines the limitations of traditional HR function and challenges the perception of HR as an administrative role. Despite quick digitization, various HR practices remain manual and slow. This chapter highlights the pressing need for HR to come out of the admin/compliance stance to a much better strategic role since Industry 5.0 demands human centricity and expects HR to be at the forefront. Methodology This chapter is based on a narrative view of recent HR technology literature and reports and attempts to synthesize themes into a practical framework for better employee experience to establish linkages between Agile Human Resource Management and Industry 5.0. Findings When HR adapts to the new industry’s expectations, it becomes agile enough to blend high-impact interventions that support employees. This positions HR as a strategic driver for Industry 5.0. Practical Implications HR professionals can synthesize the use of technology in their daily tasks and utilize their time to build better employee-centric experiences. Routine tasks can be taken care of by artificial intelligence, which gives ample time to HRs for uplifting the culture of an organization.
