Ocean bottom nodes survey in the Tupi field: Design, operation, and results

In this paper, we present briefly the survey design, the field execution challenges, the data processing and results of the biggest deep-water Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) survey ever acquired (2020) in offshore Santos Basin: the Tupi full field nodal acquisition. The method used to optimize the parameters and polygons of the Tupi full field OBN survey (base for the 4D monitoring project) and of the first monitor survey are presented. Some new technologies applied in deep-water OBN surveys have led to more operational efficiency and improved imaging over the Tupi field; through the combination of new efficient node deployment methods for deep-water, triple source techniques, larger node inventories and three ROVs per vessel, the marine seismic crew performance was capable to complete the data acquisition in an acceptable period of time, despite some delay added to the predicted period of acquisition. We applied an integrated workflow to process the large amount of full azimuth seismic data to assure an unprecedent good imaging of a deep-water subsalt target. The integrated workflow includes data and acquisition geometry analysis, ray tracing, finite difference modeling and migration, Internal Multiples Attenuation (IMA) and Least Squares Migration (LSM).
