Survival of any form of life needs energy for existence. The energy can come in many forms, including oxygen, water, proteins, vitamins, starch, and fat. However, consumption of these energies has paved the way for hunting, fishing and agriculture. Today agriculture plays a major role in addressing the food demand of human lives and others. Due to factors like disease, storage, and transportation, most of the crops are useless. Plant disease is the major factor, because of which 15% of cultivation is wasted. However, development of technology has paved a way to overcome the disease issue. Another important problem in farming is weed. Farmers have followed the conventional method of identifying the weeds with the naked eye, but it not possible for all the farmers to identify these weeds if the size of the farming land is large. Computer vision facilities need to be incorporated into agriculture with the advancement of artificial intelligence in order to identify weeds earlier. This work presents a review of weed identification and removal from the classic method to recent methods. The effort will allow researchers, especially those who are new to this field, to get a quick introduction to weed detection and identification.
