Mesoscopic Au “Meatball” Particles

Sub-micrometer meatball-like Au particles provide a very interesting mesoscopic regime in which their optical responses are determined by both the mesoscopic size and the particle's nanoscale surface roughness. The unique optical properties of these mesoscopic particles and particle arrays hold great potential in chemical sensing and spectroscopic applications.
