Effect of Autonomic Blocking Agents on Depot Fat Mobilization in Normal and Adrenalectomized Animals.

Ergotamine tartrate significantly inhibited movement of fat out of the epididymal fat body in adrenalectomized animals during a 12 hour fast. This effect was not observed in intact animals under similar circumstances. Neither hexamethonium chloride nor Dibenzyline affected fat mobilization in either intact or adrenalectomized animals. It is suggested that the adrenal steroids and the epinephrines may act together to regulate fat cell metabolism.
