Abstract (AI)
Assessment of risk of bias is regarded as an essential component of a systematic review on the effects of an intervention. The most commonly used tool for randomised trials is the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We updated the tool to respond to developments in understanding how bias arises in randomised trials, and to address user feedback on and limitations of the original tool.
Key Findings
1
Risk-of-bias assessment is essential for systematic reviews of intervention effects.
2
RoB 2 is an updated version of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool designed to reflect new understanding of how bias arises in randomised trials.
3
The original Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomised trials was the most commonly used tool but had limitations and user feedback indicating need for revision.
4
The update aims to address both methodological developments in bias understanding and practical user-identified limitations of the original tool.
