How to cite a paper by DOI
A DOI points to exactly one published work, so the citation generator does not guess from a title: the metadata comes from Crossref and OpenAlex and the reference is assembled by the style rules.
- Paste the DOI. A full link such as https://doi.org/10.… or a “doi:10.…” string works too — the prefix is stripped.
- Check the metadata. The paper page opens: authors, journal, year, volume, issue, pages. Compare them with the original.
- Copy the reference. Press “Cite” and pick APA 7, GOST R 7.0.100-2018 or GOST R 7.0.5-2008.
- Export a format. For LaTeX and reference managers, BibTeX, EndNote, RefMan/RIS and CSV sit right next to it.

What this citation generator does not do
Honest limits. The tool formats only sources with a DOI: journal articles, preprints, book chapters and conference papers known to Crossref and OpenAlex. A website, a law, a standard, a textbook or a thesis without a DOI cannot be cited this way — those need manual entry.
MLA, Harvard, Vancouver and Chicago are not supported yet. If a record in the database is incomplete, for example missing pages or an issue number, the reference will be incomplete too: check it against the original before submission.
Cite a whole reference list at once
One reference is the simple case. In scid.ai, found papers go to Favorites and source groups, and the whole set exports as one BibTeX, EndNote, RefMan or CSV file. A literature review or a paper draft gets its bibliography automatically, with a DOI on every entry.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cite a website or a book?
No. The generator works by DOI only, i.e. for scholarly publications in Crossref and OpenAlex. Websites, laws and books without a DOI have to be formatted manually.
Where does the paper metadata come from?
From the open Crossref and OpenAlex databases by DOI: authors, title, journal, year, volume, issue, pages. scid.ai does not invent missing fields.
What if I do not know the DOI?
Find the paper by title in scid.ai search: the paper page shows the DOI and the same “Cite” button. See the guide “How to find a paper by DOI”.
Which citation styles are available?
